Chelsea defender, Antonio Rudiger jets off to Sierra Leone to launch his foundation
Chelsea and German defender, Antonio Rudiger has announced that, he is on his way to his motherland, Sierra Leone to take some rest and also launch his project called the Antonio Rudiger Foundation.
In a social media post, he announced that, he is “off to Sierra Leone for some days to recharge batteries for the crucial part of the season.” He added that, he is “Looking forward to finally launch The Antonio Rüdiger Foundation For Sierra Leone”.
The project details were not provided; however, the strong defender is known to have carried out some charity works in the country. He funded the operation of 11 children with clubfoot in Sierra Leone through a partnership charity project called BigShoe.
Commenting on this project, Rudiger wrote: “Thanks so much to BigShoe to help these children in need in my 2nd home in Sierra Leone. This is what really matters in life to see them smiling again. Together we made it possible to give 11 kids a better life again – May God protect and bless them all”.
In 2020, he donated $100,000 towards free education project by the Sierra Leone government whilst saying that, “Sierra Leone is my home… I am ready to take on my responsibility to change the narrative and image of Sierra Leone,”
Although his Sierra Leonean parents gave birth to him in Germany, the football star has always supported the African country. During the group stages of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, Rudiger went viral after celebrating the performance of the team whilst holding a Sierra Leonean flag.
