Mbappe holds his own against Al-Khelaifi
Kylian Mbappe responded to some comments that came from Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who made it clear that the Frenchman will not dictate the club's transfer policy.
The PSG striker stressed that he never urged anyone at the Ligue 1 club to sign any player in particular and claimed that he is focused on his duties as a footballer.
"What I do want to make clear is that I have never asked [PSG sporting director] Leonardo or anyone at the club [to sign] a player," said Mbappe.
"I am a football player who has to be content with what I do on the field."
Al-Khelaifi had previously stressed that PSG are a club with certain ambitions but will let no player make decisions during the transfer window.
"If [Mbappe] says that [he wants a winning project] it is because he wants to win and it is not a bad thing," noted Al-Khelaifi.
"We are also ambitious. But if he wants to decide if we sign [someone] or not, that's not possible."
A lot of pressure on Mbappe
The two men maintain a good relationship, but Mbappe's recent remarks didn't sit well with PSG president, as the France international questioned whether he wants to continue at the club next summer.
"I'm at a place that I like, but is it the best place for me?" wondered Mbappe. "I still don't have the answer."
Meanwhile, Mbappe was not fond of Al-Khelaifi's comments in a recent interview for L'Equipe, where the PSG president stressed that the youngster is not up for sale.
"We will never sell him and he will never go for free," noted Al-Khelaifi, as if the two parties are unable to reach an agreement to renew Mbappe's contract, the player could depart on a free transfer next summer.
PSG have put pressure on Mbappe to extend his deal, one which runs until 2022, with Real Madrid interested in signing the French forward this summer.
Even France president Emmanuel Macron has asked Mbappe to stay in Paris, while a recent incident with Olivier Giroud forced him to speak publicly about his France teammate's critical remarks.
