Kenyan running legend Kipchoge wins the Tokyo marathon

Eliud Kipchoge, a Kenyan double-Olympic winner, won the Tokyo marathon on Sunday.
Kipchoge also won the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo last year.

The 37-year-old running superstar, however, fell short of breaking his own world record of 2 hours, 1 minute, and 39 seconds, which he established in Berlin in 2018.
Brigid Kosgei, a 28-year-old Kenyan who also holds a world record, won the women’s race in 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 2 seconds.
She came in second place in the Tokyo Olympics, after her compatriot Perez Jepchirchir.

Eliud Kipchoge is a Kenyan professional long-distance runner who once competed in the 5000 metre event. He won the Olympic marathon in both 2016 and 2020. In addition, at the 2018 Berlin Marathon, he established a world record in the marathon with a time of 2:01:39.
