Gambia:Government starts free distribution of rice among vulnerable communities in the country
The government today launched the Rural Phase of the Covid-19 relief rice distribution programme for some of the neediest and most vulnerable in our communities in the Central River Region. A total of 9,334 households in CRR will benefit from the programme. Each household will receive a 50kg bag of rice between February and May.
This follows last month’s launch of the relief programme in Banjul and the Kanifing Municipality. The Covid-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on food security in the country. Through this measure, the Government is determined to alleviate the negative impact the pandemic has on food security and nutrition on Gambians. The relief programme will in total benefit 342,000 people across all regions in the country.
