Food Security: Ganduje Establishes N88 Million Fodder Crops Farmstead
Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state has, through the Kano State Agro Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), given a contract for the setting up of 20-hectare seed multiplication plots.
The 88-million Naira-worth project is to be located in Dudduru Grazing Reserve in Ajingi Local Government Area of the state.
The seeds to be produced, according to KSADP Project Coordinator, Ibrahim Muhammad, are Hybrid Napier, Gamba grass and Cook Stylo, all of which are essential tropical African feed crops for dairy farmers.
The National Animal Production Research Institute, Ahmadu Bello University, handles the contract.
The contract includes the establishing and managing of seed plots, building of stores, dehydrating sheds, boreholes, installation of irrigation facilities, security observatory and parameter fence.
The project, when completed, is expected to improve food security, particularly livestock production.
It is also seen as a diversification of the Nigerian economy from oil to agriculture.
