The presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has pledged to inject as much as ten billion dollars to boost Nigeria’s economy.
He has also pledged to revive and build the Calabar Port if he becomes Nigeria’s next president.
He made the pledge at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar, Monday when he addressed PDP supporters during a mega rally.
Atiku promised to prioritise the development of the Calabar Port to turnaround the state economic fortunes, stressing that when the port is properly developed the Eastern flank of the country will be served, and more employments would be created.
“I have factories in Adamawa and if the Port in Calabar were working, I would not need to pass my goods through Lagos. If you open up the Calabar Port, the Eastern flank of Nigeria will be served by the and there will be massive business and employment opportunities for people in this part of the country.
“The moment Calabar Port is functional, it will be an attraction and benefit to the people. Developing the port will be a golden opportunity for the state and if you vote PDP we will implement this project, which has been grounded by the APC.
While hailing residents of the state for keeping faith with the PDP, Atiku said: “My government will inject 10 billion dollars into the economy, which will be deployed to enable our young men and women set up small businesses.”
Mrs Titi Abubakar, wife of PDP presidential candidate, has said that if elected, her husband, Atiku Abubakar, would fight poverty among women and youths through a micro credit scheme.
She stated this at a town hall meeting with other PDP women in Cross River State.
“When my husband was the vice president, I founded the Women Trafficking and Child Labour Eradication Foundation (WOTCLEF) and we gave scholarship to indigent students and skill acquisition to those that want to learn skills.
“Today, WOTCLEF metamorphosed into the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). If given the chance, we will do it again and revive the nation’s ailing economy,” she said.
While calling on the women to vote for PDP on Feb. 25, Titi Abubakar pledged to give scholarship to 50 Cross River students who performed well in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Wife of former governor of Cross River state, Mrs Obioma Liyel Imoke, called on the women to reject APC with their Permanent Voters’ Cards and vote for Atiku.
