People of Enagi Debunked Suspect Killer of Chief Imam, Says Imam has no Sleep with suspect's Wife 

The people of Enagi, the Headquarters of Edati Local Government in Niger State will not forget the horrible incident that occurred on the evening of Tuesday, April 14, 2021 in a hurry. 
According to an eye witness report, tensions started when one  Umaru Jibril who is the culprit of the gruesome killing of the Chief Imam of Enagi  Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan, when the said Umaru Jibril refused to set free his wife whom he had divorced irrevocably for three times.

The late Chief Imam was said to have played the role of a Wali (a guardian) when Umaru Jibril sought for the hand of his wife in marriage in accordance with Islamic law where a guardian is appointed to stand in and act as an intermediate for the suitor.

According to a source  who  like to remain anonymous, the late Chief Imam acting in his position as the religious leader of the town, called and warned Umaru Jibril to desist from keeping the woman he had declared divorced for three times in house as it is against Islamic law and all known stipulations.
 He was said to advise the culprit who is now resting his head at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Niger State Police Command in Minna free his wife in order for both to fulfill all righteousness according to Islamic injunctions but Umaru accused his guardian of unnecessarily dabbling into his family affairs.

How the killer of the Chief Imam of Enagi come to this conclusion of carrying out this dastardly act remains an imagination beyond the comprehension of the people of the agrarian community and its adjoining villages. 
An eye witness revealed how Umaru walked into the Chief Imam’s court where he usually teaches his disciples Islamic knowledge and requested to see the cleric in private. The cleric who have known him for years couldn’t have decipher that he had come with the intention of killing him obliged him and immediately stood up to listen to the same person he had treated like his own biological son.

Unknown to the late Chief Imam, his visitor had different plans and immediately he successfully dragged his victim to a corner within the compound, he drew out a knife and stabbed the Chief Imam multiple times in delicate parts.
 When he realized the Chief didn’t die from the multiple stabbings, he was said to have reached for a log of wood with which he hit Alhaji Attahiru Alhassan who died at the scene of the incident. 
The killer was reported to have come out open to the public and revealed he had killed him and was ready to be killed back.

Group of youths in Enagi were however prevented from committing jungle justice as the culprit escaped to Batati where he was finally apprehended and handed over to the police who averted his lynching by the mob.

Police in Niger said they are investigating the case.
