80-Year-Old Emmerson Mnangagwa Wins Zimbabwe's Presidential Election
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission on Saturday August 26th announced 80-year-old Emmerson Mnangagwa as winner of the August 23rd polls.
Mr. Mnangagwa secured a second term in office with 52.6% of the votes.
Nelson Chamisa of Citizens' Coalition for Change (CCC) came second with 44% of the vote.
The CCC party has rejected the outcome of the polls, saying that the "results were hastily assembled without proper verification".
The opposition says it would announce its next move soon.
International election observer missions from the EU, Commonwealth and 16-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC) have expressed concerns over the transparency and credibility of the elections.
