Gunmen kill 12 in Kaduna community

.Confirming the attack to the BBC Hausa Service, the District Head of Albasu, Nuhu Abubakar, said a group of armed men on motorcycles stormed the community around 12:30 pm and started shooting sporadically.

According to him, during the attack, the police were contacted but never came to their rescue until after the gunmen had left the village.

He said: “Five minutes after, we called the police on phone and they promised to come almost immediately. However, the police never came to our rescue after a couple of hours.

“We were lucky that some policemen who were attached to a neigbouring farmhouse came to our rescue and started shooting into the air. The gunmen took to their heels thereafter.

“A few minutes after the gunmen had left, the police we earlier contacted now arrived.”

Mr Abubakar disclosed that the community buried 12 corpses.

According to him, the gunmen also rustled our cattle and motorcycles and destroyed our property worth millions of Naira.

“We can’t farm now. Our lives are being lost. We need peace in our communities

“We want to inform the government that we have forsaken our right to basic amenities.

We are, however, pleading with the government to do everything possible to secure our lives and property from these gunmen,” the community leader said.

Meanwhile, bandits have killed the District Head of Gidan Zaki, in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of the state, Haruna Kuye and his son, Destiny Kuye.

According to unconfirmed reports, the gunmen also left his wife and daughter with machete and gunshot wounds respectively.

The Kaduna State Police Command is yet to confirm the attacks as at the time of filing this report.
