Zimbabwean man faces criminal charges for raising viral ‘false alarm’ as human toe dealer

40-year-old Zimbabwean, David Kaseke, has been arrested and charged to court over a viral social media post where he posed as an agent who trades human toes in exchange for a lump sum of money.

In the previous week, viral pictures and videos of what seems to be decapitated toes from Zimbabwe saturated Africa’s social media spaces.

Kaseke later dismissed claim on the ground that it was just a harmless joke and that the video was recorded in a drunken state.

The post drew attention of social media users not just in Zimbabwe, but from other African nations. The state had called for his arrest as he was accused of raising false alarm and upsetting public peace.

According to the statement of the charges, Kaseke is a mobile phone dealer at Ximex Mall in Harere. Investigations stated he claimed to be an agent that contracts the business of toe selling while charging $25,000 as agent fee.

From reports from investigation, it was alleged that small toes were bought between the price range of $25,000 and $30,000 while the big toe went as high as $75,000.

As investigation proceeded, it was discovered that it was only a joke made when Kaseke was drunk. He is currently facing charges for interfering with the comfort, convenience and peace of the public after raising a false alarm that is considered harmful to the general public.
