‘We Haven’t Appointed Anyone Tijjaniyya Caliph In Nigeria
The General Caliph of Tijjaniyya worldwide, Sheikh Mahy Sheikh Inyass, has said that the body is not aware of the appointment of anyone as Caliph of the sect in Nigeria.
This is coming barely a week after the purported appointment of the former emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as Caliph of the sect in Nigeria.
Sheik Mahy, according to a statement by Chief Press Secretary to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Abba Anwar, stated this at a dinner organised for him by the Governor in Kano on Thursday.
He said the state is blessed with so many renown Islamic scholars who ought to have been consulted before making the declaration, and that the said announcement was done without his consent as the leader of the sect worldwide.
Responding, Governor Ganduje thanked the cleric for the courtesy call, adding that it strengthened the old historical bond between the state and the cleric’s family.
The Governor recalled the good relationship between late Isyaka Rabi’u, the late Caliph of the sect in Nigeria, who he said has been very resourceful to the state.
The event was attended by commissioners, other top government functionaries and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
During the visit, Sheik Mahy had the company of over 30 grandchildren of Sheik Ibrahim Inyass as well as other leaders of the sect in Nigeria.
