ECONOMIC RECOVERY PLAN: THE STATE BETS ON AGRICULTURE

Agriculture will play an important role in the economic recovery the government is planning.  It is the conviction of the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Cooperation who estimates that with the large budget, 60 billion CFA francs, released by the Head of State, since April, for the  this agricultural season and the good rainfall experienced by the country, the yields will be good.  “I would like to reiterate that as of today, agriculture contributes 9% of our GDP.  When agriculture works, there is a very good chance that growth is important, ”said Amadou Hott.  Taking peanuts as an example, the guest on Rfm's Grand Jury show noted that 1.4 million tonnes were produced last year (2019).

But with the land sown this year, we expect much more production.  The same drastic increase is also expected in other crops.  “Thanks to the increase in the budget which went from 40 to 60 billion CFA francs, we were able to observe a lot more sown land, more opportunity to do agriculture, more yield with water,  fertilizer, the best seed and also mechanization.  So we expect a record production this year.  It will certainly keep us out of recession.  But, we'll see with the numbers by the end of November.  But already there is good hope, ”said Minister Hott.
