ICYMI: Nigerian pilgrim ‘returns missing $8,000 to owner’ in Saudi Arabia

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) says a Nigerian pilgrim identified as Aishatu Nahuce has returned $8000 to the owner in Saudi Arabia after the money went missing.

Confirming the development to TheCable on Sunday, Musa Ubandawaki, NAHCON deputy director of information, said the pilgrim deserves an award for her act of honesty.

Ubandawaki said the actual amount returned is $8000 — and not $80,000 as widely reported.

“Yes, it is true. The woman deserves an award but point of correction, the exact amount is $ 8,000 USD. She is a Hausa woman from Nahuce town of Bungudu LGA of Zamfara state,” he said.

Also confirming the development in a Facebook post, the Independent Hajj Reporters of Nigeria (IHR), a civil society organisation, commended the pilgrim for her actions and prayed that “Almighty Allah rewards her honesty and acceps her Hajj”.

The organisation said the woman handed the money over to the Zamfara pilgrims welfare agency for onward return to the owner.

Meanwhile, NAHCON has commenced return airlifting of pilgrims from Osun, Sokoto, Bauchi, Abuja, and Lagos to Nigeria.
