President of Fulbe Africa (FA) has called on all stakeholders to embrace the culture of tolerance and support initiatives that would foster respect, peaceful co-existence and dialogue among people of different religious and cultural backgrounds in the country.

Alieu Sowe was speaking recently during Fulbe Africa’s intercultural conference held at a local hotel in Senegambia.
Sowe outlined the need for all to work towards fostering understanding, acceptance and mutual respect among neighbors.

“Around the world especially in some African countries, we’ve seen the increasing ethnic and religious tensions. That’s why FA and eight other youth cultural organisations deem it necessary to organise events that would foster peace and promote unity among Gambians irrespective of different backgrounds. I therefore urged all stakeholders to embrace tolerance and support initiatives that foster respect, peaceful co-existence and dialogue among people of different cultures and religions background.”

To that end, he appealed to all stakeholders to appreciate and understand that tolerance is the strongest foundation for peace in any country, saying tolerance means recognising that ‘our diversity is our strength as Africans and Gambians in particular’.

He also called for the need for all to actively work collectively to cultivate respect for diversity, something he believes, is an important pillar for the attainment of a peaceful and progressive Gambia that would inspire other African countries.

“We want to see Africa that is free from ethnic and political violence.”
