Emir Nasiru Bayero, The Measure of A Royal

Emir Nasiru Bayero, The Measure of A Royal

Come Saturday, August 21, 2021, His Royal Highness, Emir Nasiru Bayero, will formally ascend the Royal Throne of the Bichi Emirate more than a year after he was appointed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State in March 2020.

I feel somewhat delirious that a true blue blood, a man fitting, in all the meaning of it, will be sitting as king. This is not about fulfilling a life-long desire, rather, the dignity of it, the overwhelming humility of His Royal Highness.
At a time when all sorts of characters- revelers, shady activists, debauched but faking piety- now wear the toga of traditional rulers, it is refreshing to have someone such as Emir Nasiru Bayero showing that not all traditional rulers are one and the same.

Having known the Emir personally for years now, I can attest to the magnanimity of his spirit, the generousity of his heart, and the solidity of his principle anchored on service, fairness and social justice.
Your Royal Highness, you were made for a season such as this; A season to rekindle hope in the Traditional Institution, and a season for your subjects to believe again in the sanctity of the Royal Stool.

Our Dear Emir, you are not just comely in physique, but in essence and character. As you embark on this age-long journey, something you have quested for, may it be an exemplar in worth and honour. Remember, some have sat on thrones, magnificent ones, but were cowards and steered the people to reproach. That is not in your stars.
Congratulations my dear friend. Here’s to wish you the very best on your coronation and to say, long live the Emir!

Mariam Maktoub Mohammed.
