Dr Abubakar Girei blast the Media. Government and sinking Fulani culture as reasons for conflict involving herdsmen
Dr Abubakar Gerei a famous lecturer on fulfulde language and linguistics in his characteristic self spoke without any reservations during his paper presentation at a one day conference with the theme coexistence between farmers and herders in Nigeria which took place at the Jolly Nyame stadium Jalingo Taraba state organised by Miyetti Allah kautal hore sociocultural association of Nigeria under the leadership of number one fulbe leader Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo. The tough talking lecturer said if only the electronic , print and social media will report exactly what happened in issues involving herdsmen , friends and associate of fulbe would have maintain the love , respect and trust they have for the herdsmen which would have promoted peaceful coexistence between herders and host communities. Dr Gerei also blamed the government of their insincerity in enhancing peace between farmers and herders . ' If they will give billions to crop farmers to improve their source of livelihood but why can't they give to herders or livestock sector farmers to enhance their source of livelihood ' he said. He added that unless government balance the equation , there will continue to be unstable peace between the two sector of Agriculture.
The fulfulde and linguistics lecturer did not spare the herdsmen themselves where he blamed the abandoment of the seven principles of life of the herdsman as the major reason why he found himself in this mess. The seven principles includes
1 .He will not tell lies
2. He will not steal
3. He will always be a brave man.
4 . He will never betray anyone
5. He will always promote his culture.
6. He will always promote friendship and unity
7. He will always be a helper.
Abandoning these principles has diminished the respect the society harbous for herders some years back he said.
