After 100 years Harlem's Historic Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church now becomes an "African Masjid"
I was blessed to be present tonight for the first meeting of Harlem's new Futa Islamic Center which is now housed at The once Bethel A.M.E. Church.
The Building still bares the crosses and name of The old Church as renovations are underway to make it into a full fledge Masjid.
Futa is a word in The West African Fulani (Pulaar) language which means community. In Arabic it is known as Ummah.
