Katsina police, vigilantes kill bandit, recover cows, sheep

A yet-to-be-identified bandit was on Thursday killed when a team of police personnel and vigilantes engaged suspected bandits, who invaded Karo and Garangamawa villages in the Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State, in a gun duel.

Sixty cows and 80 sheep said to have been earlier rustled by the bandits were also recovered.

The spokesman for the Katsina State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the development.

He said the bandits struck in the two villages around 2am, while the police and vigilante team laid an ambush for them at Unguwar Bara village.

Isah stated, “On March 19, 2020, around 2am, bandits in their numbers and armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, attacked Karo and Garangamawa villages in the Dutsinma Local Government Areas of Katsina State.

“The Divisional Police Officer, Dutsinma, swiftly led a team of Operation Puff Adder personnel and vigilantes to Unguwar Bara and laid an ambush for the bandits.

“Fortunately, the team succeeded and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel as a result of which one of the bandits was gunned down, while 60 cows and 80 sheep were recovered.”

He added that investigation was ongoing into the incident.

Meanwhile, a search party was said to be combing the area with a view to arresting some of the bandits, who fled with gunshot injuries.
