Two Arrested As Police Engage Armed Robbers In A Gun Battle
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command engaged suspected armed robbers in a gun battle on Saturday and arrested two suspects,30-year-old Solomon Aghofure from Delta State and 37-year-old Emmanuel Mathew from Abia State.
The suspects were allegedly operating at Sagamu Interchange Area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 1:30 am.
The suspects and their gang had already positioned themselves at the interchange, ready to attack commuters plying the road, the State Police Spokesperson, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said.
The gang opened fire on the passing patrol team led by the area DPO, CSP Okiki Agunbiade. One of the suspects sustained gunshot injuries and was apprehended while other gang members escaped into the bush, leaving behind their operational vehicle.
The bush was thoroughly combed, and another suspect was arrested.
According to the Police, a Police Corporal attached to the team also sustained gunshot injuries on his leg.
DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi added that the suspects informed the Police that they were five in their gang. The names of others are Uche (aka 2 million), Arinze, and Uzor.
The fleeing suspects are said to be ex-convicts and had served jail terms in Okitipupa and Sagamu.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Edward Ajogun, has ordered the transfer of the suspects to the State CIID, adding that the fleeing members of the gang be apprehended.
