Speaker Gbajabiamila celebrates Ace Musician, Queen Salawa Abeni at 60

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, has rejoiced with popular musician, Queen Salawa Abeni, as she clocks 60 years today.

Gbajabiamila said Alhaja Salawa Abeni, popularly called the Queen of Waka Music, has revolutionized her genre of music from the 1970s to date.

The Speaker said the 'Gentle Lady' should be celebrated as she is a pride of the Nigerian music industry, especially those that ply their trade in the Yoruba language.

Gbajabiamila recalled with nostalgia how Alhaja Salawa Abeni used her songs to educate, entertain and inspire people, saying she has made her mark over the years.

He said Nigerians and indeed the Yoruba nation are proud of the works of Alhaja Salawa Abeni, whom he described as a truly 'Gentle Lady' worthy of emulation.

The Speaker said it was her exploits that earned her the title 'Queen of Waka Music' conferred on her by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi in 1992.

At 60, the Speaker said, the Queen of Waka Music remains a determined and focused musician whose life has been a source of inspiration to many.

Gbajabiamila prayed the Almighty Allah to continue to grant Alhaja Salawa Abeni good health and wisdom to mark many more years on earth.
