Eid-El-Fitr: Karaye Emirate Set For Sallah Durbar

The emirate of Karaye in Kano State has resolved to conduct the Sallah Durbar to mark the Eid-el-Fitr.

This followed similar expression of readiness for the traditional festival by the Kano Emirate Council even when some neigbouring states are suspending the ceremony for security reasons.

A statement issued by Haruna Gunduwawa, the Information Officer to Karaye Emirate Council said the decision was reached after the approval of the state government.

He said three historic durbars would be observed in the emirate including the Eid durbar, the Hawan Kutufi and the Hawan Qeqasa.

“In the light of this development, all district heads of the emirate have been directed to mobilize village heads and horse riders to start moving to the Karaye town for the festivities from tomorrow Tuesday the 11th of May which is equivalent to the 29th of Ramadan.”

The statement added that the ceremony would be conducted in strict compliance to COVID-19 protocols.

Hawan Sallah otherwise known as Sallah Durbar is a traditional display of horsemanship and the Hausa rich cultural values.

The emir along with his district heads and host of title holders ride on horses adorned with traditional regalia typifying the rich cultural values of the people.
