Emir Of Bichi: Sanusi And I Shared Same Room At The Palace

The Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, says the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has been his friend for a long time.

Sanusi, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), was appointed by then governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, after the demise of Alhaji Ado Bayero, father of the current emirs of Kano and Bichi.

But following the creation of four new emirates out of old Kano emirates and several contentious issues, Sanusi was deposed by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in 2020, paving the way for the appointment of Alhaji Nasir’s elder brother, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as the Emir of Kano.

In an interview with Daily Trust as part of the preparation for his coronation ceremony and the wedding ceremony of his daughter, the Emir of Bichi said the amity between him and Sanusi is a case study for everyone in the emir’s palace.

“He is older than me, maybe three years older. But we were friends from the start; right from the beginning. We grew up together.”

The Emir of Bichi said the former Emir of Kano “moved to the palace where I was, my room, my own little room,” adding that both of them lived together in the ‘little’ room apportioned to him (Nasir) in the palace.

“We have our breakfast together then we also go out together. We are friends, we are family and in the family growing up we were the closest to each other.
“Our friendship was kind of a case study in the palace because our fathers also grew up together.

“Late Ciroma Aminu Sunusi and my father also best of friends and my father were his (Emir Sunusi) uncle,” he said.

On whether or not they still maintain the relationship and still communicate, the Emir of Bichi said, “Yes! We still maintain good and cordial relationship.
“The life was the same, and so we still relate.”
