“Trust me to give life to Ivorian football;” Drogba says as he joins race for federation president
Ivorian Football legend, Didier Drogba has promised to bring the needed change to the Federation as he has been cleared finally to join the race for the next President of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF).
Mariam Dao Gabala, president of the FIF normalisation committee announced that, “Six candidates have been registered. They are Yatte Ellele Jean-Baptiste, Arnaud Aka, Laurent Kouakou, Idriss Diallo, Sory Diabate and Didier Drogba.”

Responding to the news, the former Chelsea talisman said “Finally here we are! I can’t wait for the campaign to start. I can’t wait for the campaign to start. Trust me to give life to Ivorian football if I am elected.
In an earlier interview, the 44-year-old said football administration needs attention and that, he is willing to man the challenges. “I can bring the change that the federation and the clubs need. Football isn’t rising the way it should and the way we want it in Ivory Coast,” he said.
He added that, “there is a lot of work to be done and to make sure that we can improve the conditions for the players and the administration.”
Despite playing over hundred matches for the Elephants, Drogba’s candidacy was earlier rejected by the Federation’s commission in 2020. The authorities who postponed the election severally claimed the former star did not meet eligibility criteria as those who signed his endorsement documents were ruled out as “unauthorized” people.
