Nigerian Govt Ignored 44 SSS Security Reports Before Kuje Prison Attack, Says Wase
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris-Wase, has said that about 44 State Security Service, SSS, security reports were ignored by the security agencies before the terrorist attack on Kuje Correctional Centre.
Mr Wase stated this during Tuesday’s plenary while contributing to a motion on the ‘Need to halt the proposed nationwide ban on Commercial Motorcycles’ sponsored by Abubakar Yalleman (APC-Jigawa).
Recall that the National Security Council had in their last meeting proposed a ban on mining activities and motorcycle operations in a bit to curb the raging insecurity in the country.
Backing the move by the Federal Government to ban commercial motorcycle operations across the country, Mr Wase said the country could not afford to keep ignoring security intelligence.
Mr Wase said: “You can imagine what is happening today in Abuja. I will be frank with you. I went through DSS reports. 44 reports were given before the attack of Kuje. I want to say so, I want to confirm to you, 44. I went through all the reports. And it all has to do with this.
“There is no community that one attack or the other will happen and we will not have an intel, and this is part of the intel that, they have given as what is going to happen, what is happening and what is not going to happen.”
The lawmaker, however, appealed to his colleagues to support the Federal Government in implementing the policy in vulnerable areas where the ban could help in tackling banditry and terrorism.
“We should cooperate with the government, though we appreciate what our brother has brought and we appeal to the government that as they implement this policy, they should consider those areas that are not vulnerable.
“In line with our principle to help the government curb the incessant insecurity in our country, we have to cooperate with the government,” he added.
