7 Killed, 5 Injured As Bus Rams Into Truck On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

Seven passengers died on Friday while five others sustained injuries when a bus crashed into a moving truck along Lagos – Ibadan expressway.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 7:40pm opposite the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office along the highway.

A Mazda bus marked LSR696XS had crashed into the moving truck with registration number T-4889LA, killing seven persons on the spot.

The FRSC Spokesperson, Mrs Florence Okpe confirmed the incident on Friday night, saying the bus was conveying 16 passengers – 15 male and one female adults.

She said said seven deaths were recorded, including the only female in the ill-fated bus.

Okpe explained that the crash might have been caused by speeding and loss of control on the part of the Mazda bus driver.

The FRSC Publicist said injured victims were taken to Victory Hospital, Ogere, for treatment while the dead bodies were deposited at FOS morgue at Ipara.

She quoted the Sector Commander, Ahmed Umar, to have described the crash as an avoidable act, if the driver had adhered to the speed limit, as it was raining during the period of the crash.

According to her, the Sector Commander reiterated the command’s warning against speed violation by motorists.

She also quoted Umar to have
commiserated with the family of the victims and also enjoined them to contact the FRSC Command in Ogunmakin area for further information on the crash.

Daily Trust reports that 10 persons died while 14 others were injured in separate accidents along the highway on Wednesday.
